Recently I saw the following go down, and while it may violate ethics, it just goes to show how ruthless your fellow players can be.

The game is Limit Hold Em. The player in seat nine has the little blind. One player limps in and it gets back to seat nine who then asks, “want to chop?”.

This is saying is becoming more common and is usually uttered by a player with a weak hand. He wants everyone to take their bets back and move on to the next hand.

The big blind and the limper didn’t object so everyone took their bets back.

The very next hand, seat nine is on the button and gets JJ. Nobody comes into the pot and it gets around to him.

He has two choices, he can let the blinds take their bets back or he can play the hand. You would think he would return the courtesy and let the blinds chop since that is what he likes to do when he is in the blinds. Instead he opts to raise.

So it goes to show, when someone else asks you to be nice to them, don’t do it. That same player probably wouldn’t be nice to others.
