A visitor to PokerTools recently asked:

“When a dealer deals a card to another player that accidently flips over. What is the ruling? Is the player dealt a new card, does he accept the card dealt, or is a new deal dealt?”

House rules will differ. If this was a private game, I would probably do a misdeal and redeal the hand.

In a licensed casino that makes money on every hand dealt, the last thing the casino wants is the hand to be redealt. Redealing slows the game down and they lose money. Instead, they usually have rules that say there is no misdeal, just fix the situation and continue on the same hand (which is quicker which increases revenue).

To fix the situation with the least minimal disruption to the hand, the following procedure is usually enforced:

Suppose everyone has received their first card. The first player to get his second card (let’s say seat 2) has it flip over on the deal. Then dealer should then continue with the deal as if the card was never shown. At the end, everyone has two cards. The same two cards they would have had anyways. The only difference is we’ve seen one of seat 2’s cards.

Now we don’t want to change the order of the flop, turn, or river, so how does Seat 2 get a replacement card to makeup for the exposed one, without changing the board to come?

Simple, you exchange the exposed card for the card on the top of the deck (the burn card).

In this manner evrything remains the same except one player has had one of his cards switched. This is the closest you can come to keeping everything the same.

Poker bots are taking over online poker and they are profitable. Read this article about 10 players who were recently caught using poker bots:

http://www.examiner.com/online-poker-in-national/online-poker-scandal-poker-bots-caught-after-winning-58k-at-pokerstars

After reading that article, you’ll see that a few things tipped off the sites. Playing way too many hands. That would be the first clue. Try not runnning your poker bot for more than a couple hours at a time.

Predictable play was the next tip off. Try using a bot that mixes up it’s play and doesn’t do the same pattern over and over.

We did a quick search of Google and found the following bots:

http://www.pokerbot-online.com/
http://poker-bots.com/
http://www.pokerbot-smart.com/

We have not used these, we do not get paid to recommend these. Just a resource provided by us to help you find the latest and greatest poker tools.

As you saw in the above article, by using a poker bot you run the risk of getting your account cancelled and your winnings confiscated. Currently it is not illegal to use them so you can’t be prosecuted.

Looking for Poker Table Plans?

BEFORE you buy or build your home poker table, watch this video. Don’t build a poker table that is not right for you.

In this video Jeff Stine will reveal tips and tricks he uses for building custom poker tables. Trust me, you’ll want to see this as there are many thing you you may not have thought of that you will want in your poker table plans.

Discover why the type of wood you use is important, why a “pedastal” poker table is recommended, and why it’s important to plan and build a poker table with comfort in mind.

Once you discover the poker table that is right for you, you’ll need foam, felt, railings and once finished with your table you’ll need Poker Supplies.

In the end, if you decide not to build your own poker table from plans found on the internet, but want to buy a professionally built one instead, I definately recommend Poker N Stuff for your next poker table.

I’ve used many suppliers over the years and their service is good, but the best part is, their prices are the lowest I have found. They have some excellent poker tables (the same ones you find elsewhere but cost 30% more).

Badugi has become a very popular form of poker in Southern California and is currently picking up in popularity throughout the world. In case you haven’t learned already, here is how to play the popular Badugi poker.

The game is played with a standard 52 card deck. Four cards are dealt to each player. There are three draws in this game with a betting round after each so the pots can get pretty big.

The goal of the game is twofold. First, you want to get one card of each suit. At the end of all betting rounds if your hand holds one heart, one club, one spade, and one diamond you have a Badugi, PROVIDED you have no pairs. Pairs will hurt you. Make sure it’s one of each suit and each must be a different rank.

Now if two or more players have a Badugi, the winner of Badugi poker is the one who has the lowest four cards. Ideally you want A234, each of a different suit (with Ace being low).

If no one can make a Badugi with their four cards, then at the showdown, each remaining players discard one card. Now the winner is the person who has the lowest three card Badugi. Ideally, that would be A23.

Example: You are dealt Ac 7d 8c 10s

In this hand you have two clubs. You can’t have that if you expect to make a Badugi so discard the higherst one (in this case that would be 8c). You are now left with A 7 10. While a 10 high Badugi usually wins against one opponent, if this was the first draw, I would discard it also since there are three draws to improve. If it was the last draw, I would keep it and hope to make my 10 high Badugi.

Go to any poker site online and you’ll find a tab or link that says “Poker Tool” on it. Do a search on Google for the term “Poker Tool” and you get 23 million results.

How did the poker tool take over the poker world?

It all started back in 1999 when I was working for Commerce Casino as their Satellite Director (person who oversees and runs the one-table satellites). In that position I was required to wear a suit and tie.

To enhance the players playing experience, to stand out in the crowd of hundreds, and to add a little personality to the tournament experience. I always wore a poker tie. I had dozens. I wore poker cufflinks and poker tie clips.

Players always commented on where they could get them for themselves. Back in 1999, poker hadn’t taken off yet so it was hard finding poker related items. So in 2000 I opened this website to provide poker clothing, poker card guards, and other hard to find poker items and put them all together on one website.

I needed a name for the site so I thought about it. There are plumber tools, there are carpenter tools, architect tools, and mechanic tools. Why can’t poker players have tools to help them in their proffession.

Sunglasses to hide the eyes, clothing to distract your opponent, card guards to protect your hand from being accidently mucked, and even poker books that help you play better. I coined this collection of weapons, as “poker tools” and named this site as such.

As the poker explosion took off, soon every store in the world was selling poker related items so the PokerTools.com website moved towards promoting the online software used for playing poker such as odds calculators, tournament software, player trackers, hand replayers, and more.

Today many poker players associate the term to just the different varieties of software, but it originally encompased all the tools you use for battle on the felt. Sun Records introduced the world to Elvis and PokerTools.com introduced the world to poker tools.

I hope you enjoyed this bit of poker history and I hope to see you on the felt.
